Comfort
A steady wind blew her hair back, exposing her face to the muted rays of the sun. Dark brooding clouds hung to the left of her, casting their shadow over everything they passed. To her right lay lands untouched by the darkness, still bathed in the gentle rays of the late afternoon sun. The sharp contrast between the evanescent light and the advancing shadow possesed a stark beauty - a reality which reflected the past week.
A single tear rolled down her cold cheek, down to the corner of her mouth, where it spread lightly on her lips, lips which just four days before beheld the kiss she would never forget, nor taste again. A single rain drop fell, followed by others seconds later, on the freshly refilled earth over which she knelt.
The rain grew heavier, bringing with it a cold comfort of constancy. Tear lines were washed away,
and carried down to the grave by the rain. Her sadness was swept down to the earth in which his broken body lay.
The cold yet comforting caress of the soaking rain made her realise it was time to move on. He was now free, and whole, just as her memories were of him.
As she got up to leave, she cast a long gaze to skywards, knowing he would be there looking down from above, waiting, for them to be together again.
